Presenting Our New Logo!

When Lisa and I started Of Sound Mind and Spirit, we spent a lot of time talking about choosing a logo or brand for the blog and social media accounts.

We decided on a pair of holding hands to show that we were sisters working together. Lisa bribed her two young daughters to sit in the front yard and place their hands on the green St. Augustine grass. That’s been our image for 13 years.

New Design

Over the past six months, in addition to moving our website we also worked on choosing a more colorful brand image and logo to represent our growth and our future. Today we’re so happy to introduce you to our new Of Sound Mind and Spirit image and logo designed by an outstanding artist, Carla Quigley.

In our search for an artist, Lisa and I found ourselves drawn to Carla Quigley Art for her bright, vibrant colors and defined lines. The more we reviewed her portfolio, the more assured we were that she was the person for the job. She worked patiently with us gathering information to design exactly what we wanted. At one point in a draft review conversation, after a very specific line of questioning, I finally said, “Carla, I have no idea! You’re the professional. I trust you. Just do what feels right.” And she did.

Carla’s design utilizes a mandala style that Lisa and I both loved. In the center, she retained and refined our original image of holding hands. Two hands because we are built for community, for friendship, and for helping one another on the journey to heaven.

“The Lord Jesus appointed seventy-two disciples whom he sent ahead of him in pairs to every town and place he intended to visit.”

Luke 10:1

A fringe of green grass surrounds the light blue center, a throwback to that ordinary front yard where we started. The green and blue together evoke feelings of Earth, the global symbol for the whole world.

Roses next, for our devotion to Mary, the Mother of God, and our consecration to Christ through Mary. And perhaps also a little nod to my confirmation saint, St. Therese of Lisieux who said before she died, “I will spend my heaven doing good on earth. I will let fall a shower of roses.” Over our years of writing together, Lisa also counts St. Therese among her own “saint squad.”

Next comes the light, the burning flame stirred up from our work and devotion through the blog. When we chose the name “Of Sound Mind and Spirit” and realized it tied into 2 Timothy 1:7, neither of us even noticed the line before, St. Paul’s call reminding us “…to stir into flame the gift of God that you have through the imposition of my hands. – 2 Timothy 1:6

The ring of grass that bursts forth in continued growth also resembles a monstrance. This is the beauty crafted by Carla Quigley in her unique original design that made choosing our new logo to represent Of Sound Mind and Spirit such a positive experience. She finished off the image with warm petals lifting off a band containing our scripture, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. – 2 Timothy 1:7

Hands, Flame, Spirit.  All growing in the ordinary day to day living of our lives. For when we walk with one another, when we encourage, console, and invite each other to seek Christ, to surrender to Him, what mighty things He can do in the small moments of our lives that build a foundation to sustain us.
